How do you get it to record all day and night

You DON'T

You ARM the camera in the MODE AREA ...it is a "motion detect then record " system.  If it is armed and sees motion , then it will record for the time amount picked up to 2 mins.

Recording all thetime would deplete the batteries in a day or so

you'll find if you recorded all the time, you'd exhaust your batteries in about 8-12 hours.

No battery operated cam is designed for continuous operation.
