impossible to converse with doorbell

I experienced the dreaded latency problems and went so far as to pay $150 for an Arlo smarthub which I literally placed on the other side of the wall from the doorbell, but there still is the issue where if someone actually rings the doorbell, it's practically impossible for me to communicate with them (the connection doesn't seem to be made). I have 1 gig internet (Google Fiber), so I don't think it's my network.

Is there any way to improve this situation?
