It seem some features are turned off if you don’t subscribe. The activity zone has disappeared so now everything that passes by is recorded…..very annoying. The basestation USB storage has to removed and connected to a PC or laptop to see your videos. There should be a way to access through the network. Evevy my old TV can access a network drive to see pictures. We are now thinking of returning the product.

FWIW, There is a statement about the subscription on the doorbell packaging, though I don't recall how prominent it is.

 

Two base stations (VMB4540 and VMB5000) give you the option to see locally stored recordings from the Android or iOS app - but you can't see them via my.arlo.com  https://kb.arlo.com/000062337/What-is-Direct-Storage-Access-and-how-do-I-use-it
