I have a situation where the voltage in the existing chime doorbell is low (rental property) and therefor the Arlo doorbell doesn't even power up to give any LED's. Therefore I deduce that an external (plug in) power supply might solve the issue. I don't want to route around the house to locate the doorbell transformer etc and upgrade that.
So questions:

  1. Am I doing the correct thing by using an external power supply
  2.  What supply do I need? There seems to be hundreds out there but I am unsure of their validity
  3. Anybody else do this ?

Thanks in advance

Something between 16 and 24 VAC.  Arlo says it should be ar least 1 Amp.  https://kb.arlo.com/000062414/How-can-I-install-my-Arlo-Video-Doorbell-without-an-existing-doorbell-...

Yes.  I believe @jguerdat has.  Perhaps he'll share his model info.

Hard to say.  You will lose the chime functionality.  It is possible that the wireless model (AVD2001) would work, it can charge down to 8 VAC.  But the details matter - not all chimes are compatible, and some use DC (which definitely won't work).

I happened to use this one:

ANything that supplies the proper voltage and current will work, just as with the typical house transformer.

Thanks - I will let you know what I end up doing
