We have the Video Doorbell and our account has Person Recognition enabled. For long periods, the Person Recognition feature worked well. It was handy to know who was getting home, and when, via notifications.

Recently, almost always, the system only sends a notification that a "Person" was at the door, even when it is one of our family members who are very well recognized by the system.

I checked in the App, and "person recognition" is turned on, and the family members' faces are still in the "recognized" list – there are dozens of images of each of us in the database for recognition purposes. Still, even in daylight, the Video Doorbell is not apparently recognizing anyone as people who are in the database.

I don't know of away to "reset" this nor should that be needed. Is this a common problem?

I'm noticing the same issue with many IDs simply being person. It's generally just me and my wife so they are well-known by the AI.

@JamesC , @ShayneS , @BrookeN do you have any insight into this?

Do you see the missing recognition or "people" label on a different device or web browser as well?

For the devices you are experiencing this with, is it Android or iOS and what is the app version?

I already let the team know as well, just waiting to hear back.

Thanks

Dear @ShayneS - the recognition failure occurs by way of display on our iPhones.

The Arlo notifications used to state the name of the person who was recognized. Now we find that in 99.5% of cases, a recognizable person who is in the database is flagged only as "Person" or "Motion."

My phone is iOS and the app version is 6.0.6 which it states was released May 16.

I read the first comment on my post (someone said it was A.I.?) which talked about updating the firmware, power cycling, even going into the database to delete some of the images of the "recognized people."

The Video Doorbell's firmware was already up to date. I have not tried deleting images of people.

I don't know what "power cycling" is but I did see that I could "restart" the doorbell, so I did that.

The very first person that came in front of the doorbell after I restarted was a family member who was recognized. I thought it might be fixed. Since that time, the system has not recognized anyone, over a few days. (Boooooooo!)

@Rusty-Alvin Thanks for the update, the team Is looking into it, I'm just waiting for more feedback.

And, that AI post you are referencing was a bot, that was removed, don't worry. You can't see it anymore.

Dear @ShayneS  - I do seem to see a difference in the **notifications** versus what appears in the feed that I can review one the website or sometimes in my App.

The notifications seem to all come in with "Person" but the record of the feed that I can review seems to have more names more frequently than we ever see them in notifications.

I used to get notifications with names of people but they seem not to be coming in with recognition, even when the system DOES recognize people and labels them in the feed.

Hi @ShayneS now I was able to do a direct test...

Just now I came home, the notification on my phone said only "Person detected..."

Then I signed in to the website for Arlo Secure and I see that the system actually did recognize me.

So the Person Recognition might be working properly, but it's not sending that info in notifications to our phones.

That's good for diagnosing the issue, I guess. It is a KEY function for the notifications to have the names.

There is a trade-off here.  The person recognition is more complex than the object detection, and it can take some time.  So it would sometimes delay the notifications.

I have definitely noticed notifications labeled as Person and then a couple of seconds later being updated properly. However, I have numerous notifications and labels in Feed of my wife and I only ever being labeled as Person when they should be by name.

My notifications USED TO update like that after a moment, but not anymore.

I could even see this when I would come home, it would first say "Person" detected and then quickly update with a notification stating my name.

Now I don't really see those second notifications ever, so we're left with the first only with no name. 😞
