Woke up this morning to AVD1001 doorbell "Firmware update is available" but when I tried to update, on both the app & web portal, I get the following error "Firmware could not be updated. Please try again later. (Error code: 4208)".

Searching the community forums I found the following discussion, which was reported as "solved" and closed by @ShayneS on 07/04/2025

Solved: AVD1001Ar1.2 Video doorbell firmware update failed - Arlo Community

Apparently it has not been resolved and needs to be looked at again.

Well, I guess I'll say, "job well done 🤔" since now when I clicked on "Update" (in red) it went to "Updated" (in blue) and then immediately back to "Update" (in red). I did this 4-5 times and it finally stayed on "Updated" and then the doorbell camera started working.

Obviously, there's still an issue with this firmware update and it needs to be looked at.

FORGET WHAT I JUST SAID!!! 😠

The doorbell camera is now blurred again saying "Firmware update is available" and when I try to update, it's once again going back and forth from "Update" (in red) to "Updated" (in blue).

Can you please remove the doorbell from the account. Reset it and after the reset add it back to the account.

Oh, I suppose...as much as I hate to 😥 since I have a bunch of routines with other devices that are linked to the doorbell, so it'll take me a while. I'll get that done this afternoon and update you on it.

Question...since I'll have it removed, would it be better to link it to the VMB5000 (current configuration) or would you recommend direct to Wi-Fi?

Thanks

@KachinaShadow I know I know it is not the funnest thing to do. But I do think it will resolve what you are seeing.  The hub's advantage is the Local Storage, and the cameras wouldn't need to compete with 2.4 GHz if customer has a lot of networking devices connected to the wifi network.. The Hub creates its own network which the cameras will be paired to.

Oh, I don't really mind...it actually gives me a chance to see if the routines that I had set need to be modified or eliminated. Besides, it's 102° outside so I'll stay in and do this 😓😁

I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks

The advantage of pairing it with the router is that the doorbell will be more responsive, I found. My experience was that doorbell calls were immediate, without any lag. No local storage, though. This, of course, depends on how busy your and your neighbours' 2.4GHz network(s) is/are.

OK...reset & readded doorbell and guess what? The firmware was updated and is actually the correct version 👍

So now it's time to grab a cold beer and set up all the routines 😎

By the way, it wouldn't be too much to hope for that this firmware update would actually solve the Arlo/Alexa compatibility issues that I mentioned in a previous discussion 🤞🤔

Thanks again,
Paul
