No. has to be direct to the base since the base creates its own custom WiFi for Arlo-only devices.

The base station WiFi isn’t strong enough to pick up my doorbells. The doorbells have been connected through a smart hub. The WiFi and the base station are connected, so I would like to keep images on the base as I do for my cameras.

When you use your home wifi, the doorbell connects directly to the Arlo cloud.  There are no local recordings.

 

When you use the base, the doorbell connects directly to the base, which then connects to the Arlo cloud.  There are local recordings when you set it up this way.

 

While it could have been designed differently, Arlo didn't do that.
