Cameras and Doorbell won't connect with the mobile apps.

I have recently purchased three Pro 4 cameras and a Wireless Essential Doorbell. I am unable to get any of these to connect via the mobile app. I've tried both Android and iOS apps. I thought my trouble was my VPN router, so I bought a new clean router (yes it's 2.4 not 5ghtz). No change. I was finally able to get the cameras to connect by using the Web portal on my laptop. That QR code worked right away, for the cameras. They are working fine now and I can control them via the app just fine.
Sadly, the doorbell can only use the app as there is no option for the doorbell via the web. I cannot get this working with the QR code the app generates.
Does anyone have any idea how to work around the app for a doorbell?

Are you still having an issue pairing your doorbell with your app? Which version of the Arlo Mobile app is on your Android/Apple Phone? Did you initiate the pairing process by pressing the doorbell button so it flashes white? There is a detailed How-To video here if that helps: How to pair Arlo Video Doorbell
Does the brightness on your phone adjust for low light conditions so doorbell can see the QR code on your phone?

Yes i have followed the Arlo instructions exactly. And followed the troubleshooting page which honestly is just a more verbose version of the instructions. I get the chime when it reads the QR code, but then the App says it's searching for the device but it never finds it. It spins and spins for about 5 minutes then finally says no device found.
I have version 3.5.7_28405 on my Android (in installed in last week). iOS version is 3.5.6 (2972).
