So I purchased the doorbell at COSTCO a few days ago because it looked like a great deal ($89).   I installed it yesterday following the directions, and once completed we turned the power back on and nothing, no lights or anything on the doorbell.  I checked everything that ARLO said to while following the instructions in the APP.  Waited a few minutes to see if maybe the internal battery (if there is one) needed to charge, but nothing...  Next thing I know I start smelling something, and I went thru the front door and I hear buzzing and smell something burning, so we quickly killed the power again.  

 

My transformer is a 16 volt so it is within the spec and should have worked.  All wires were installed correctly including the power kit for the indoor chime.  Guessing either the chime or transformer burned out, i'll put a meter on it later to check.. Anyway, i took all the arlo stuff off and reinstalled original doorbell.  Now when I press the doorbell all i get is a buzzing sound.   I might be an idiot, but i'm not your average idiot.  This thing obviously fried something, so Is ARLO on the hook to help fix/replace/repair as needed?  i've read many other similar stories since.  Since it looks like the ARLO never got any power to the doorbell since no lights were lit, I'm guessing it had to do something with the power supply add on?  I was gonna try and use put it in bypass mode, but did not want to cause any further damage, but i think that would not have made a difference since as far as i know the doorbell itself was not getting any power so it would still be unusable.

 

I guess worst case is I have to install a new doorbell chime/transformer kit inside and take ARLO back...

I have the same problem my doorbell is making a buzzing sound now.

I had the same problem buying the 2 camera and doorbell set at Costco.  Called Arlo and they told me that the set I got from Costco did not have the doorbell firmware.  Had to pay about $150. for the firmware 1.14.0.0_931_5ed3664_1c4138d to be installed.  They had me reset and still didn't work.  They even told me to have a electrician come in to look at the wiring.  Electrician came and found nothing wrong.   After all that, I had them send me a replacement and now it works.  My Arlo person and her supervisor was great.

Something wrong here, as Arlo would not have charged for support (though you would have to pay for the electrician).

Called Arlo.  The person that answered said that she was in India.  She had her supervisor take over call after we tried to reset and some tests.

And that resulted in a $150 charge???  It shouldn't have.

Do you have your case number reflecting the $150 charge? Arlo will not charge you for anything other than Smart Plans.

Then your chime also burned out or got stuck, prob from extra power

Well. Guess I need to deal with mine.. I know I have no wire issues, it is the product.... hope you got your $150 back from their scam cause that's what it was...

 No one really responded on this... You removed the power kit and the Arlo doorbell?  

 

The buzz likely means that the transformer isn't delivering enough power.  First double-check the connections at the chime and the doorbell, and make sure they are solid.  Assuming they are, I think you should replace the transformer.  This should be less expensive than replacing the chime (particularly if you do it yourself).  If you have a voltmeter, you could also look at the voltage when someone else presses the doorbell.

 

Note you can go over the Arlo 10va spec, as that is the minimum power.  You do need to stay within the 16-24v spec (and also use a voltage that is compatible with the chime).
