Good morning,

I have ordered 2 Arlo Essential Wired Video Doorbells to replace my existing front and back door push button type doorbells which ring a single chime box.  Currently, the doorbell transformer is underpowered (10 Vac - 5va) so is going to require replacement...along with the chime box to match the new transformer rating.

My question is: What is the proper size doorbell transformer to install to accommodate the power requirements for TWO of these doorbells?  (I do understand the range is stated as 16 - 24Vac & 10va but I am not sure if that is sufficient for 2 installs and assume I will want something more than the minimum 16 Vac - 10va to support both doorbells.)  I have seen 16 Vac - 30va transformers as well as 24 Vac - 40va transformers.

My goal is to ensure that the updated transformer installed will provide ample power with some to spare versus being just barely powerful enough.

I thank you all in advance for any replies posted.

Cheers!

My own transformer is 24v 40 VA, and powers two doorbells and two chimes.

Not much difference in price over 16v 10 VA.

Thank you for the reply Stephen B.

It does seem that's the size to go with...more than enough power to carry both doorbells and the chime box.  I also agree that the price difference is negligible between the two different transformer power ratings.   I just wish my transformer was wired into a junction box versus directly into my 200amp service panel.  I'll go into a box after killing the circuit to wire things up but I won't go into the panel.  I've got to find an electrician for that.

Thanks again for the info!
