Hi everyone,

I’m looking into getting the Arlo AVD3001 doorbell and wondering about its storage options. I currently have the SmartHub that comes with the Arlo Ultra 2 starter kit.

- Does the AVD3001 support local video storage on this SmartHub using a memory card?

- Or is a paid cloud subscription required to store recordings?

I’d really appreciate any clarification or experiences!

Thanks in advance!

A subscription is needed for cloud recordings. It would seem that you have a subscription for the Ultras - do you? What's your plan here? Without a subscription, as long as the doorbell is connected to your hub, you can use local storage for all cameras.

I currently have 2 Ultra 2 cameras and 1 AVD2001 doorbell, all of which I use with local storage on an SD card in my SmartHub. My question is whether the AVD3001 can also store videos locally on the same SmartHub, just like the AVD2001 does.

I’ve read that the AVD2001 requires a subscription for cloud storage to save recordings, so I’m trying to confirm if AVD3001 works the same way or if local storage alone is enough without a subscription.

Thanks again for the help!

Yes, though that does require new firmware on both the smarthub and the AVD3001.

The firmware needs to be this (or later):

  • Arlo Video Doorbell 2nd Generation - AVD3001 / AVD4001 – Firmware: 1.5.0_1059_eb10395
  • SmartHub VMB5000 – Firmware:  1.25.0.1_1762_0201bb2

Thank you for the information!

Is this firmware currently available? I recall reading in an earlier thread that there wasn’t support for connecting newer doorbells like the AVD3001 to the SmartHub. Has the firmware now been rolled out and does it work as expected?

Appreciate your clarification!

Yes.  But it can take a long time for Arlo to push it to all customers.
