This my newbie dumb question no.2   I'm guessing the doorbell emits its own chime but being located externally, I'm also guessing that the person who hears it clearest (perhaps the only person who hears it?) is the one pressing the button.  So is the Chime accessory pre-requisite to installing the doorbell?   I'm assuming a Chime would be essential if we're in a back room which is some distance from the door where the doorbell will be located.

No, it doesn't.

You can get a phone call when pressed, and you can add an Arlo Chime 2 inside the house.  If you have a compatible traditional chime in place for your current doorbell, then would also ring when the doorbell is pressed.

But you do need to research compatibility a bit - the existing chime+doorbell system needs to use low voltage AC.  16-24 VAC and 10 VA will work with both Arlo doorbell models, if your existing chime+transformer uses 8-16 VAC, then you'd need the WireFree model (AVD2001).  If your doorbell+chime system includes an intercom feature, then it won't be compatible.

Hi Stephen, I haven't installed the Arlo yet (wireless video model AVD2001) so there's nothing already existing.  So my takeaway is that the Arlo Chime 2 is fully compatible with it - safe assumption?    Thanks.

Yes.

But are you saying that there is no doorbell or chime at all now?
