Securing Doorbell to Apartment Exterior Gate

Hello,

I am very interested in getting a doorbell/camera but I have perhaps a unique situation. The entrance to my apartment has a wood door under a wire mesh(1/2" gaps) gate. So, I could either attach to my wood door, use the doorbell less often but the camera would have to view through the mesh in the gate or attaching to the gate which would be ideal but my neighbor has had her unit stolen so i would need a way to secure it and still be able to remove it to replace the batteries.  I can provide pictures of the condition if possible on this platform. Any feedback? Thank you!
