Why do Arlo state that the Wire free doorbell is compatable with the VMB4000 base station, but according to other posts you cannot connect them together as the firmware is not compatible?  The Wire free doorbell has nowhere to record vidoes without paying for the subscription?

AVD2001 Base Station/SmartHub support is now available with the latest AVD2001 firmware update. Make sure your Arlo Essential Wireless Video Doorbell is using the latest firmware version and you will now be able to sync directly to your Base Station/SmartHub.

Compatible Base Stations/SmartHub models include: VMB4000, VMB4500, VMB4540 and VMB5000

Please note that HomeKit integration is not yet available for AVD2001. Now that Base Station support is available, we plan to add HomeKit integration early next year. Stay tuned for updates.

Where are you seeing that it is compatible?  Note answer 19 here, which says it is not:  https://kb.arlo.com/000062526/Arlo-Essential-Video-Doorbell-Wire-Free-FAQ

Generally it is easy to confuse info on the AVD1001 (wired) doorbell and the AVD2001 (wirefree) doorbell.

In any event, Arlo says that they are adding the ability to pair the AVD2001 with a base, and that it is "coming soon".

FYI, with the VMB4000 base, locally stored videos can only be reviewed when you remove the USB drive from the base and connect it to a PC.  You won't be able to review the stored videos in the app or browser.

The smarthubs (VMB4540 and VMB5000) would let you view them in the app - though there are a lot of restrictions, so I personally think the subscription is the better way to go.

Thanks for your response -

https://kb.arlo.com/000062284/What-is-the-difference-between-each-Arlo-SmartHub-and-base-station

In this article under VMB4000 it states Compatible with: Arlo Ultra, Ultra 2, Essential wire-free, Pro 4, Pro 3, Pro 3 Floodlight Camera, Pro 2, Pro, Wire-Free, Wired Video Doorbell, and Audio Doorbell

Thats what made me think it was compatable. Looks like i am either getting a subscription or waiting thanks.

When it says "wire-free", that's for the original cameras, not the wire-free doorbell. Until a firmware is released that supports the wire-free doorbell to be compatible with a base or hub, it will only connect to WiFi.
