I have recently installed my Arlo doorbell and set up an activity zone which includes the length of my drive. However I only get notifications whenever someone is 8-10 feet from the doorbell. My sensitivity setting is 100%. Does anyone know if the detection can be fine tuned?

Motion needs to be mostly across the FOV, not directly at the camera. Post a screenshot of the camera view with the activity zone.

I’ve just noticed that, if I try to view live, that it takes about 8 seconds before the connection is complete. Could this explain why people are almost on my doorstep before their presence is recorded?

That's not out in the weeds but is a bit long. I just tested my 2 doorbells and got 6-7 second connection times. However, that's not exactly related to motion detection recordings. Part of the issue is that the driveway is a good ways away from the camera and people detection is up to maybe 25 feet so it's likely you're on the edge of detection. The other part is that motion is towards the doorbell once they leave the driveway, lowering the distance at which the PIR sensors can detect the motion.
BTW, you are setting the motion detection in your modes and rules, right? I'd also drag that zone down to eliminate the street and include more area near the door.
