I’m currently researching new cameras for my outdoor security needs. The arlo ultra is on the short list.
Can someone please tell me if the cameras record only on motion detection or they record 24/7 ?
I need motion detection only. As I have a limited bandwidth and speed internet and can’t have all my data being used by recordings.
Thanks in advance,
Regards
Jason.

It will do "CVR", but that needs an extra subscription.
What is continuous video recording (CVR) and how do I use it?
Don't subscribe and you don't get it.
Arlo subscription plans and cloud recording

If I don’t subscribe, I miss out on live streaming and other features too. So I’ll have to subscribe. Hopefully I can turn off continuous recordings.
Like I said. I have limited internet (4G modem) and only 80GB a month data. Can’t get better where I am right now.
So I don’t want the cameras taking all available data and bandwidth.

As I said in my answer, don't subscribe to CVR and you won't get CVR.
But that is not the only way to use up bandwidth. Even without CVR your cameras are responding to triggers (movements), and sending reports to the cloud. So the amount of data you use will depend on how you set up your modes and rules.
Lots of triggers = lots of data.
