When I open my app- I get a new screen shot preview of my camera view, with a time stamp on it. Usually this seems to have been made by a car passing in the street (well outside my activity zone).
I understandably get no notification of motion as it’s outside the zone, and no recording is generated, but why is it taking an image? I can find nothing in the user manual to explain what is going on.
Not worried about it unless it is firing off an image anytime motion is detected outside my activity zone and thereby decreasing the battery life.
Can anyone enlighten me here?

If your camera is battery powered, then the activity zone processing is done in the arlo cloud (and requires a subscription).
Whenever motion is detected, the video is streamed to the cloud for analysis. If it is outside the zone, the video is discarded. So battery life isn't improved - but undesired recordings and notifications are reduced.
