Just a quick question,
For someone who has no subscription and only uses live view with local recordings, does the base station/smarthub still have to authenticate or talk with the cloud server before a live stream will load?
If so, would it improve the incredibly slow 5-10 sec lag if the camera only had to talk to the base station/smarthub and excluded the cloud server altogether?

TMK, the request for viewing goes upstream and then the command goes back to base to start... so Yes.
The system is cloud base so prob not going to change, tho there is some speeded up display with the Baby cam and app when local on same network.

Thanks for your reply TomMac.
I was guessing along those lines. Would be terrific though if it was disabled for users who do not have a cloud subscription and only use local. But I highly doubt that would ever happen.
I'm guessing Homekit only talks with the hub and tells the hub to fire up the cameras, thus allowing true live view with next to zero lag.
