When I go to Storage Settings  to view what was recorded, I can only see if at home on my Wifi. When away from home, I get the following message "There is an error obtaining your library. Arlo team is working on this issue." I have Port Forward enabled and my router has it assigned. Is this truly being worked or another on resolved issue?

If the router or hub has been rebooted, the hub may have a different IP address than what was assigned when port forwarding was enabled. A good thing to do is to use the router's DHCP server configuration to assign a static address to the hub so it never changes.

Can you verify that the IP address in the port forwarding config matches the hub's assigned address?

It might be blocked by your ISP.

I'd confirm that the port is actually open, using https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/

Also, it's good to assign the base station's local IP address in the router, to ensure that the traffic is always forwarded to the base.

Hi,

I am using the Base Station VMB4540 and have a USD drive connected with it as local storage.  I have also activated port forwarding (only the specific IP address and port assigned to the base station) so that video clips can be accessed and viewed when I am outside home.

While acknowleding the risks of port forwarding, is the risk of my Arlo cameras being hacked into the ONLY risk?  I am curious if port forwarding only the base station would also potentially lead to my other devices connected to the same router being hacked into?

Thanks.

Did you also reserve the IP address for the base in the router?  Almost all routers let you do that.  The local IP address for the base can change - for instance when the network comes back up after a power failure.  If this were to happen, then the port would end up forwarded to a different device.

You are depending on the security built into the base firmware.  If a hacker were able to get into the base, they could use that as a springboard to access your other devices.

The alternative is to use a VPN built into the router.  While I personally consider that to be a bit safer than forwarding, it has a similar risk - you are then depending on the security built into the VPN software.

Either way, you are also depending on the security built into the router itself.  So you do want to keep the router firmware up to date.
