I bought the 4 pack Ultra 2 (VMS 5440) bundle from Costco about 3 years ago and everything has been great but my busiest camera needs an up-the-ladder trip to insert a fully charged 2nd battery every 6-8 days. This camera is in the shade year round so a solar panel doesn't seem to be the answer.

My question ... can I buy an XL battery for the Ultra 2 cameras I have and get more days added between charges? Will the XL battery fit in the camera housing I now have? Or do I have to buy a new Ultra 2 XL camera? Need help ...

The battery won't fit in the standard housing.  But there is a kit that includes the XL battery and the XL housing:

Note the XL can't be used with the magnetic mounts.  The standard screw mounts will work.

You can consider permanently connecting a charging cable to this camera.  Since this cable is USB on the other end, you can further extend it via a USB extension cable, to somewhere easily reacheable.  At this place, you can either plug in a much larger battery pack (longer replacement period), or even a wall charger (no longer need to replace any battery)

I have been charging the cameras using external battery pack, and just without extension cable.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for replying Alex. This camera is place over the garage door about 6-7 feet. Your suggestion would work in most situations but I would have to run it through a garage attic about 14' above the garage floor and then through a wall and down about 6' to an outlet. At 72 years old, it would be a bit much for me but thank you just the same.

I have ordered the XL kit I was unaware of making this the solution. I still have to ladder-up but I've already been doing that for 3+ years. Thank you Stephen ...

what kind of garage door is yours?  Say if it's like my roll-up garage door, very likely there is a gap between the door and the side wall.  The gap is large enough for a cable to get thru.  If that's the case, you don't have to climb up to the attic.

Attaching a pic of my situation.  The gap is red-circled.  You can see my ultra 2 just outside garage door.
