So one of my ultra 2s is showing signs of rust already around the mount threads.  My pro 2 that used to be in the same location has bad rusting on the threads but that camera is also several years old.  This one is only a few months old.

Has anyone else experienced this?  I am at a loss for an explanation.

Gonna guess it's the mount that's the issue, not the cameras. A different model may be useful.

If that's true I'm out of luck.  I can't drill into the siding because it is an apartment so i can't use the magnet mounts that come with them.

Also, I find it odd that it only affects this camera and not the others that are outside.

It seems like some sort of environmental factor is at play but I can't figure it out.

You can try cleaning the rust with wire brushes and/or thread chasers and coat the threads with a thin grease to waterproof them. Perhaps this location gets more direct water spray than other locations?

You're right it is more exposed than the others as there is no overhang to protect it.

What would you recommend for grease?  Just a standard type of grease you can get at home depot or wherever?

I'd think pretty much anything would work, whatever you can get in a small tube like white lithium grease, dielectric grease, etc.

I'll give it a shot.

Thank You for the suggestion.
