How does this mandatory upgrade affect using the desktop for our Arlo? We do not use the phone app.

I should say we do have it on one phone but have only used it twice.

The web client also supports the "Feed" UI.
If you add new cameras or doorbells, you will find that that many of the new models need to be installed using your phone. If you get the VMB4540 or VMB5000 smarthub, then the direct access to local storage feature of those smarthubs is also only available on the phone.

Crud...wish we would have never bought the new Ultra2 system. $1000 down the drain plus $$$ on new computer to do 4K. Do they not realize that it should not be so complicated? I have read the threads on this 'upgrade' and can hear the absolute anger in so many people over this. The Pro2 system and it's versatility in controls were just fine. We only got the new system for the 4K (which is subpar).

And why do we need local storage if we are paying more a month for them to store video for 30 days?

If you have a subscription then you don't need local storage.
You might still want to set it up, as it gives you a backup for the cloud storage.
