How do I get the app on my watch and how do I get notifications of activity on the watch?

Just installed 4 Ultra 2s with a home base.  Initial apple notifications worked on the apple watch but after the required system upgrade, no notifications.  How do I get the app on my watch and how do I get notifications of activity on the watch?
