HomeKit won’t get past “Discovering Your Device”

I’d like to add the HomeKit support but the app (both iPhone and iPad) just sit on the Discovering your device. Please wait. Firmware is updated. I’ve restarted the base station.
Does this even actually work?

Have you tried pairing via this How-to article below? Also I have reset your HomeKit token, Please reboot your Base Station or Smart Hub and try again.

Thanks for your reply Shayne.
Unfortunately both of those options do not work.
My base station has no setup bar code to scan or set up code to manually input.
The Apple Home app also does not find the base station when trying to add the accessory.
I was however able to add it to my Google Home app.
