Hi,

As I'm nearing my purchase of a few Arlo Ultra 2 cameras in the coming weeks or months, I have a few questions left though:

1) I can read the FOV is 180°, although at some place I've read this is just the vertical angle (with the horizontal one being 151°). What is correct?

2) The FOV can be changed to a lower value, with 120° being the minimum. Is this related to the vertical angle, the horizontal one or both?

3) Which are the angles for the default mount?

4) Does this stay the same when using the anti-theft mount (https://www.arlo.com/en-us/accessories/VMA5100-10000S.html and https://www.arlo.com/en_be/support/faq/000062332/How-do-I-use-my-Arlo-Total-Security-Mount )?

My intention is to see if and how I can place the cameras (not unimportant before purchases :-)). I'm specifically looking for a way my front cameras only take the porch into focus, so the more I can turn my cameras, the better my options.

5) Is there some kind of 3rd party mount which makes it possible to turn this camera into some sort of PT-camera (so I can change the position IRL remotely)? I'm probably TOO hopeful right now! 🙂

Thanks!

Regards,

Pedro

Neither.  It's measured for the diagonal.  https://kb.arlo.com/000055577/What-is-my-Arlo-camera-s-field-of-view-and-how-do-I-change-it

Not sure what you are asking here, since both the standard screw mount and the standard magnetic mount allow the camera to be angled in a variety of directions.  Similarly for the anti-theft mount.

Personally I'd pass on the anti-theft model.  I don't have one myself, but several folks here have found it's security features to be inadequate.

Any mount that has standard 1/4-20 UNC threads can be used.

There are some motorized mounts I see on Amazon that look like they should work, but I've never purchased one myself.  You would need to make sure they can handle the camera's weight (~330 grams), and find one that is weatherproof.

Hi @StephenB ,

Thanks again for your quick reply!

I must say I'm a bit confused by the mounts... What are the options for mounting an Arlo Ultra 2?

I'm aware of

1) the standard delivered screw mount (standard security mount?), which is or looks like this, right? https://community.arlo.com/t5/Arlo-Ultra/Arlo-Ultra-New-Outdoor-Mount-Purchasing-Extra-Mounts/m-p/16...

2) the anti-theft mount from Arlo (which is included in some (or all?) Ultra 2 sets); for these mounts the camera need another housing than fir 1 (both housings can be bought separately)

3) the standard magnetic mount, which should (always?) be bought separately AFAIK

4) the old standard delivered screw mount (standard security mount?): not sure if this one can be used with the Ultra 2? https://www.arlo.com/en_be/accessories/arlo-adjustable-wall-mount

5) https://www.arlo.com/en_be/accessories/arlo-pro-outdoor-mount seems to exist too; also no idea if this can be used with Ultra 2

All 3 can be angled in a variety of directions (all 3 evenly flexible or is one "better" than the other?), can be used indoor or outdoor and can be charged while in use AFAIK. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I understand the anti-theft mount is not that great (plastic...), but on the other hand I guess it's still more secure than the other 2 options, right?

For the charging part: I need the standard charging cable for this when indoor; when not long enough I can use a normal USB extension thread to extend; and/or replace the standard charging cable by a longer official Arlo charging cable (see https://www.arlo.com/en_be/accessories).

When outdoor I can't use the standard charging cable and need a special outdoor cable whatsoever, possibly extended by a normal USB extension thread.

Correct?

Anyone having experience with https://wasserstein-home.com/collections/arlo/products/arlo-pro-camera-security-metal-wall-mount? This seems to have a 360-degree swivel & 90-degree tilt, which is probably better than the standard mounts, right? Or not?

Regards,

Pedro

The standard camera housing takes standard mounting 1/4 UNC 20 threads.  All Arlo screw mounts can be used with the Ultra 2, as they all use these mounting threads.

The camera kits do come with one mount per camera - and that is a mix of these magnetic and screw mounts.

The screw mount has 2 degrees of freedom,  It will swivel 360 degrees, and tilt up to 90 degrees.

Note that original Pro/Pro 2 magnetic mounts cannot be used with the Ultra.  Also, you can't use the Ultra magnetic mounts with XL battery upgrade (as the larger housing doesn't have the metal plate inside that the magnet in the base sticks to).

And it's harder to take down the camera when you need to do that.  So IMO it's a combination of fairly weak added security and a significant inconvenience when you do take the cameras down.  So personally I'm not going with that model.  FWIW, a somewhat similar mount is built into the Pro 3 floodlight - which I do have.  And I dislike that mount too.

No experience with it, but it looks equivalent to the Arlo screw mounts I already use - which also have 360 swivel and 90 degree tilt.  The main difference is that the Wasserstein model is aluminium, while much of the Arlo screw mount is plastic.

Hi @StephenB ,

I'm planning to continuously charge the cameras, so in that case I won't need to tinker with the cameras (or at least, normally...). So the fact that the anti-theft mount thwarts camera "maintenance" is not really an issue for me. On the other hand I agree it's expensive for simple plastic and a simple "key"; but if it's still the most secure way for mounting, then that's the way to go for me. However, the only reason I can think of right now for not using this mount is if I can't position my cameras well enough with this mount, while another one does the job better (in that case I can still use https://www.amazon.com/Protective-Theftproof-Security-Cover-Compatible/dp/B07TDNP2JJ/ref=sr_1_35?cri...
&sprefix=arlo+ultra+2%2Caps%2C164&sr=8-35 from Wasserstein, although some other brands have something similar.

Anyway, IF I would use "normal" security mounts, then I would have 3 options:

1) VMA1001-11100S
* standard screw mount (standard security mount)
* 360° swivel, 90° tilt (where did you get this info from? are you sure? It looks so, but that doesn't really count 😉 )
* https://www.arlo.com/en-us/accessories/VMA1001-11100S.html

2) VMA1000(B)-10000S
* white or black (B) standard screw mount (standard security mount) for older Arlo cameras, but compatible with Ultra 2 according to Amazon
* 360° swivel, 90° tilt

* according to a YouTube video this mount is better than the one that comes with Ultra 2, but I'm not sure if this is one man's opinion or if it's broadly accepted so
* https://www.arlo.com/en-us/accessories/VMA1000-10000S.html

3) Wasserstein; made from aluminium

* 360° swivel, 90° tilt
* https://wasserstein-home.com/collections/arlo/products/arlo-pro-camera-security-metal-wall-mount

Which one should you prefer? Which one is the more robust one AND supported for Ultra 2? Do they get rusted?

Thanks!

Pedro
