Hi - I've owned an Arlo camera system for years now Pro, 3, 4 cameras and a VMB 4000 base used with PC and android app (PC is preferred), living alone in a mobilehome park just off a major street we've had homeless persons jumping the walls into private backyards getting into mischief so the system is great and gives me a lot of peace of mind. Previous to the newest major app/ online update I could easily favorite, share via email links, or delete videos on individual cameras, viewing each was also much easier as well. THIS NEWEST UPDATE is ABSOLUTETLY HORRENDOUS in my opinion. The individual videos in feed or on individual cameras are way to small even on a PC to see clearly. Not having the ability to favorite and/or delete videos from each camera separately in mass but only in the new "Feed with Events" section is awful. Favorite saving is a thing of the pass because they all get deleted if you do a daily mass delete in the new feed section anyway. The old system clearing told you on each camera "All will be deleted EXCEPT favorited videos" and it actually worked now you get NO pop-up notification during deletion and all my favorites are gone as well... Who has time to go through each video on a camera to select each unwanted video to delete them one at a time.  PLEASE GO BACK to the old system as to individual cameras larger video visuals, mass deletes, favorites showing and saving on each camera. Many Thanks in advance.

As you've noted:

  • Marking a video as Favorite no longer prevents the video from being deleted.  Favorite is now completely useless.
  • In the browser interface the thumbnail images are way too small to be of any use whatsoever, even when set to the largest, it's difficult to make out anything.  There's also a huge amount of wasted space from the 'details' on the left to the tiny thumbnail on the right.  This is also true in the app on an iPad.  The old grid layout actually worked.  This does not.
    • It's obvious that this dev team is trying to utilize the 'One size fits all' design strategy (aka the lazy strategy)  which almost never works (I'd say never works, but maybe there's one or two out there).  They're designing for the phone and using that for all mobile devices, which doesn't work, and they're porting the code to the browser interface which is one reason it's so bad.  I assume this is a very young and inexperienced design team.

In order to delete all recordings from one camera, follow these steps (sorry if you already know this):

  1. Go into feed (not feed for one camera, just click on the feed link)
  2. On the right side under the calendar is a little link that says Devices.  Click on that.
  3. All of the cameras are selected by default.  Click on Deselect All Devices.
  4. Click on the Camera whose recordings you want to delete.
  5. Click on the ellipses above the calendar and choose Select Events.
  6. Select the radio button in the grey bar for the current date
  7. Select Delete
  8. In the calendar, click the next date you wish to delete for that camera.  The camera you chose will still be selected.
  9. Go to #6 and repeat as necessary.

Yes, this process is beyond convoluted, stupid and a horrible design.

Even deleting individual recordings is so much clunkier than it used to be.  Everyone on the new app team should be fired and they should start from scratch.  It's the only way they'll address all of the problems.

All of that said, here's what I do because of all of that.

  • I don't even try to manage anything on line any more.  Every day, I DL the previous day's recordings in one shot.
  • I put them into a folder for that day.  At some point later, I review every single video and save or delete from my hard drive.
  • I don't bother deleting anything from the Arlo site, although I used to under the old design.  It auto purges after 7 days.  I can't be bothered to do that much more in support of their crappy design.

Of course, the bulk DL process has also been changed and has its own issues,.  For instance there's no longer an indicator how many recordings I've selected.

I think I saw someone else up here say this, but what Arlo is doing will be a future case study for how a company destroys itself from within.

Hi AikaneKai, I appreciate your reply and yep I do everything you've suggested and agree that it just so much extra time and clicking to get what was a very straightforward way of doing things done!
