Arlo just dropped supports on older iOS devices. :(

Like the original iPad Air and iPhone 6+ with their iOS v12.5.7. Can't update their iOS to v15 since Apple stopped updating them after v12.5.7. I use these old devices all over the places so I don't have to keep checking my 12 mini. I wished Arlo would bring back its email notifications. 😞

Yes they did.  They are old devices (introduced in 2013 and 2014).  Although it's painful if you still have those devices, there are (regretably) lots of apps that can't be installed or updated on iOS 12.5.7.

This happened for my iPhone 5s about 6 months ago, I had it working again for about a week ago until arlo realised it was working again and nobbled it.

About two weeks ago they have changed the app startup page with a text box message saying the app needs an update which is not possible with iOS 12.x device.

interestingly the app worked fine for the week that I had it working again.

Obviously planned obsolescence by arlo.

If you can't upgrade iOS to something newer than 12.x, then the device must be 10+ years old.

Lots of apps don't work with iOS 12.  For instance, YouTube.

I don’t watch u-tube, mobile device is old but the arlo app worked fine using iOS 12.x a few weeks ago when arlo let it.

That was just one of many examples...  This generally is because the app developers want (or need) to use newer APIs.

I get the frustration, I've had to replace a few devices (both Android and Apple) over the years as needed apps stopped working.

As far as "planned obsolescence" goes, this is IMO really on Apple.  They are the ones who stopped bringing new iOS releases to your devices.  And they stopped providing security updates for iOS 12 a couple years ago, so there are risks if you continue to use it on-line.
