I have Essential Wire-Free Video Doorbell.

Connected to iPhone and Windows PC.

I adjusted the Zone 1 Activity Zone slightly and was able to save the change on the PC.

Now when I go to the phone app, the change was not reflected there. And when I adjust it on the phone, there is no button to save the change.

Spiderspoon,

Do you have the latest version of the mobile app installed? Try deleting and recreating the zone.

Yes, my app is up to date.

I deleted zone 1 and recreated another zone 1. There is no save button.

There is a Save button on the website, but not on the phone app.

Notwithstanding that and all that precedes, I think I have misunderstood Activity Zone. I thought it would change the shape or size of what was recorded. I was expecting that it would zoom in on what I had selected, but it doesn't.

I have another problem though. It takes several seconds to pick up and start recording. If I walk up to the front door, it doesn't record me walking up until I am almost there. So it doesn't record a visitor approaching, but only someone who has been there for a few seconds. Can this be adjusted?

Correct.  Its purpose is to exclude notifications and recordings due to motion in areas not of interest (e.g., outside the zone).

The system uses passive IR sensors to detect motion.  Those have a range of about 20-25 feet - though this depends on the details of the moving object (size, temperature).

You can try increasing the motion sensitivity, and see if that helps.  https://kb.arlo.com/41/How-do-I-change-the-motion-sensitivity-on-my-Arlo-camera
