I just purchased 2 of these cameras and the volume from the speaker on both is terrible. They are so quiet it's impossible to hear what's being said through the speaker even in an otherwise silent room.

The volume setting is set to maximum.

Both cameras have the latest firmware installed 1.8.3.0_9926

My main device for viewing the camera feed (and talking) is an Android (Galaxy S8) with the latest version of the Arlo app. I have also tried a Nexus 6P with similar issues.

I have also tried using a web browser (Firefox) and the volume was slighty better, but still too quiet for any practical use.

The camera is advertised as having 2 way audio as a feature, yes it seems almost pointless.

The main reason for me choosing the (very expensive) Arlo camera was that it's from a reputable brand, and has 2 way audio capability.

Is this a known issue, and if so when will it be resolved?

Volume through a mobile device is problematic, apparently due to the inability to change the mic gain like you can do with a computer. The latest firmwares have made it better than before but still noticeably quieter than from a computer with the mic gain turned up.  You can try speaking loudly directly into the mic but until the mobile OSes provide a way to adjust the gain, I suspect we're at the limit of what can be done with an app and firmware.

If that's the case, this video from Netgear is false advertising https://youtu.be/kiGOyprlAQ8?t=54s

Guess I'll be asking for a refund

It DOES work, it's that using the app for an outdoors camera requires close proximity and loud speaking.  I'd like to see Google and Apple provide additional controls for mic gain.  An app developer is limited to what the hardware/OS supports.

I have contacted Arlo support regarding this issue. If the problem is not able to be fixed, then they have broken Australian consumer law by advertising a product feature that does not function as advertised.

I like the camera a lot but I absolutely agree the speaker is way too quiet for any practical use.

artywah,

If the audio can be heard but is low, this could be an issue with the mic output volume (possibly a phone setting). I would like to follow the case you have open with the support team on this issue. Please provide your case number and I will review your case and offer any additional assistance that I can.
