Is it normal for the device to get hot to the point that one is concern a fire might start?  This is my experience on new device, new right out of the box brought from shopping network ~ 1-2 years ago.   Is there danger in keeping such device plugged in?

There have been a number of posts with similar concerns. The operating range is a maximum of 122F, when the camera will shut off until it cools down.
Some say that it gets to 90F in shade.
A lot of the heat comes from the continuous streaming of video and the use of infrared LEDs for night vision.

I would suggest keeping it in a well ventilated location away from children.

Also check that the power adapter in use is correct for the input mains voltage in your location.

The Q needs to be plugged in, since it has no battery.

Per Arlo, it is normal for the camera to get hot ("noticeably warm") when plugged in.
