Evening all, I have an Arlo Q plus, purchased CVR giving me 247 recording for 30 days at a time (the basic plan).

So this unit is mounted inside looking out a window overlooking my front garden and drive.

The motion detection is "hazy" at best, however, that aside, I thought I would go and investigate the CVR to "download" the footage of my car reversing onto the drive way.  How wrong was I, ghosting of image that is stored on netgear servers as a detected alarm.

I then thought I would get the timed CVR section and go back to before this snippet was recorded, and watch it. Well ghosting, freezing, black screen, also, would appear you cannot even download a section that is not caught by motion or audio - please tell me this is incorrect and I have missed something ?

Let alone there is no time stamp on the video, which means it cannot be used by police or law enforcement.

So far, £189 quid on a camera, £127 quid on CVR for a year for 1 camera, over £400 / $500 burnt and quality is at 10 meters - crap.

Please tell me I have screwed something up, please tell me putting the camera at 1080 (the highest res) was wrong and I should run at 720 for better response.

We won't go near the disastrous firmware upgrade - that's another thread.  I really just want this to work. 😐

I would ask first, what data thru- put do u have.....

the Q can max out at 1.5 Mbps at times at highest rez .

The ghosting effect has come up before, it has been a product of thru- put, compression and lost key frames issue.

As to thru window ,I still run my Q looking thru double pane glass, and up to 50 ft , it's detection is fine....btw tight against glass

Hi and thanks for coming back to me, I have little to no contention ratio here, out of multiple upload tests I have performed on my new VDSL (almost a month old now) I have consistent upload speeds to both the UK, USA (to my own servers and BT services servers) and speedtest results, my sustained throughput at its lowest has been 17Mbps, this is why I got the service I have, as I know I would need multiple cameras.

As I have the Qplus, I assume if I put a 128GB card into the camera, this should then be flawless recording (ie no ghosting), if I do that, how can I access the material on the card without removing it ?  I notice going to http://ip or https://ip has no gui.

It would be nice for someone from NetGear to comment on the wifi situation ?

Lastly yes, I am looking through double glazing, you mentioned you have yours pressed up against the glass, but you have the Q, is yours running at 720 or 1080 ?  Can you see number plates easily ?

to my knowledge, you must remove the card to view the recorded files.

Put in a trouble ticket thru Support... you could try to lower the rez and see if ghosting problem decreases

My Q is at 1080... Seeing plates is not an easy thing to do with most wide angle cameras...

Here's a snip of video thru double pane glass to show how it looks;

The Q cameras have a 130 degree angle of view. That's equivalent to approximately an 8mm fisheye lens on a 35mm or full-frame DSLR camera. Along with the compression used, there's virtually no way to reasonably expect the ability toread license plates at any distance further than maybe 5-10 feet or so without perfect lighting and enhanced contrast. These are not ID cameras as Tommac has stated many times before.
