I just upgrade from Arlo to Arlo pro. still I can't read the license plate from vehicles that in and out my drive way.  Read license plate is important to me, since my neighbor has increase thieves that stealing package at the front door.

It's a function of field of view, compression and distance. Realist, the only way to get a plate number is to move the camera closer.

I use to install systems... We called the two basic types of cameras 1) activity cams and 2) ID cams....

Activty cams will cover a large area and you'll know what happened and when.

ID cams cover a very small area and usu are centered on a area of 6x6ft max.

With the first you'll see all but never get an ID, with the second you'll get an ID only if the person goes into the small area. ( otherwise you get nothing).

You can't get both at the same time in most cases with fixed cameras .

In order to get plates you would need a secondary camera aimed at the place you think the car is going to park...and that's still a maybe.
