I have the ARLO VMB 4000 base w/3 ARLO Pro VMC 4030 cameras.

I'd like to know if there's any way to get the cameras to record motion beyond 15-20 seconds. I've set them to record motion and below that is says maximum 5 minutes. I've never gotten a video that lasted more than 20 seconds even though the motion continued for a long time beyond that.

If I choose the set amount of time, the maximum is 120 seconds. Not long enough to catch a thief.

Any ideas why videos never go longer than 20 seconds?

Thanks

Time for you to do some testing to figure out how long a pause is enough to cause recording to stop. My previous testing showed ~5 seconds of no motion was enough to cause it to stop. If the motion then starts again, recordings will start AS LONG AS THE CAMERA CAN DETECT THE MOTION. That means if the motion stopped being detected, it could be that it moved out of range of the PIR sensors. Your eyes don't count - the sensors have to be able to detect.

I think what generally happens is that the person stops moving (pauses) long enough for the system to stop the recording.

Personally I'd like to see a setting on how long to record after motion stops (and then have the time extended again if motion resumes).  @JamesC - is there anything about this in suggestions for development list?

I agree with you. I can't think of any reason why a camera should stop recording as long as their is some movement, even with a minor pause. I personally have been in front of a camera and did all kinds of movements just to see if it would continue to record. Nope.

I doubt there is anything in the planning dept. that will incorporate what you suggested. Makes a lot of sense.

I did manage to get a long recording but that was when I manually turned the camera to live.

Yeah, you're right. I figured if I set sensitivity to almost max, the camera would continue recording even with a short pause.

I'll just continue to play with the system until I find out what it is/isn't capable of.

Appreciate your interest and time.

Just an FYI, many folks, including myself, just use timed recordings due to this issue. It's not perfect but unless you have a lot of recordings, battery life doesn't suffer.

Thanks. That's what I've decided to do.
