I purchased an arlo pro over a month ago. I subscribed for the 10 dollar a month plan. I set up a motion active only zone on my camera and hung it outside. It was recording about 7-8 clips each day..and every day the battery would lose 20% battery life... so I was having to charge it once a week. After doing this for a month I just stopped charging it. I changed my account to the basic service this past week, and charged it one more time. I have had it up for over 24 hours now. It has recorded about 120 clips becuase I cannot specify a zone for it to sense motion.. so everything sets it off. The battery has only gone down to 98%.
What the?! Again, this has to be a joke. What a fail.

While I can't give you a technical answer, did you notice the notice when activating Smart and the zones that battery life would be affected? This is due to the need for the camera to stream so the backend servers can process the data to determine how to identify the moving object.

Oh and to add to that.. even with a zone selected on the camera it would still record "nothing" randomly it seemed like. Not a great solution at all. That does make sense, and makes that feature really horrible having to charge the camera every week.

For those users who have been experiencing increased battery drain a new firmware release is now available that will help resolve the issue.
We appreciate your patience as the development team has worked to resolve this issue and apologize for any inconvenience caused.
The firmware on your cameras will automatically be updated between 3:00a.m.- 5:00a.m. PST.
Please be aware that if your cameras or base station are offline or actively recording during that window, they may not receive the update.
If you do not receive the update during that window you can go to Settings > My Devices in the Arlo app, and from there choose to install the new update.
