I am mounting an Arlo Pro camera outdoors, but connected to power (so I can avoid battery charges). However, using a charging cable with the magnetic mount causes an issue because the cable connection to the camera gets in the way and I can't point the camera downward. If I rotate the camera (upside down), the cable connection gets out of the way. I can then invert the image with the software. Problem solved.
Well, perhaps. I notice that when I mount the camera upside down, a small grid gets rotated to the top. I think this is where the speaker/microphone are. Will this be a problem with regard to weatherproofing if the speaker/mic grid faces upward?
The cable connection itself is not an issue because I will silicone seal it.
Thanks.

It'd take a pretty good whack with a stick to knock them off the magnetic base but, yes, a screw mount is more (but not totally) secure.
Orientation should make no difference as to weatherproofing. They're designed to be able to be mounted inverted.

Don't have an answer for you but if worse comes to worse buy the Arlo screw type mount for $19.95. By doing this you also take care of the possible issue of your camera getting stolen. Any of these camera's with the magnetic mount can easily be knocked down with a stick.

The way I look at it, if someone wanted to break into my house or some punk wanted to easily steal the camera, a strong stick, broom handle or anything like that would knock it off it's mount. At least with the screw on type mount, it's much more secure when mounted above 10 feet.

Just an aside - I use a garbage picker-upper to take my cameras down for battery changes and I have to get quite a good grip on the camera to pull it off the magnetic base. I don't disagree that the cameras can be swatted down but it would take accuracy and force. I'm not gonna test it, though.
