Can I record while I have a camera in live mode?

I got an alert yesterday and went to live mode to watch a person dump a cat at our shelter.  Unfortunately, what I watched live didn't record.  Is there a way to make this happen?  I'd hate to think I would be canceling a recording if I go live.

When you are in live mode "hit" the record button on the bottom of the screen.  You also have the ability to take Pictures with the camera icon (also on the bottom of the screen)
