We have just gotten this system. We have put some of the cameras in windows facing outside. We can see what the camera sees, but it does not seem to be able to pick up motion. Is this because it is going through glass or should it work?

Its not going to work (or work very well or effectively). The PIR sensor (motion sensor) is a change in heat sensor ( infrared heat). Most newer dual pane windows are designed to block the infrared heat of the light passing through them. Thus it blocks the ability of the PIR sensor to detect the heat of most objects outsie of the window.
