Why do I need a base with Arlo Pro ? what is the advantages of the base ?
As there is another similar wire free wifi camera ( Ring ) that doesn't need any base
Hard to choose what to buy .

Because that's the way it works.... 🙂 ( ring connects to your home wifi )
Really tho, The base for Arlo and base forArlo PRO creates it's/their own wifi network to speak directly to the cameras (only cameras can talk to the base, no other wifi devices ). This allow max data flow/processing in the base to be sent down stream to servers via internet.
Closer to the ring is the Q and Q+ cameras... they don't need a base but hook into your home wifi. ( they are indoor rated )
They can run under the free level of service with 7 days storage.

Edit: Crap. Misread. The base requires an Ethernet port to connect to. If the Airport Extreme doesn't have one, you can use a WiFi extender that has one. The e tender connects to the WiFi, the base connects to the e tender.

If I'll buy the arlo pro with the base , do i need to configure my router (AirPort) to see from far away via my iPhone?
meaning, do i need to add the arlo and configure the new port ?
Or the ios app is doing it automatecly
thanks

The issue is allowing the base to have unrestricted access to the Internet. Once configured, the app or browser accesses the servers, not the base or the cameras, regardless of the Internet connection.
