hi
is it possible to get a kit with a normal base station (not siren as i have an alarm already) with arlo pro or pro2 cameras? also to get the full function i assume the cameras need to be mains powered? can these also be inculded in a kit.

The newer base unit is better than the original due to a newer processor and more menory... You don't have to use the alarm if not wanted ... it can be toggled off
Also , YES... to use all the feature of a Pro2 ( zones and pre-record ) it must be ac powered.
If the cost difference is that much, then just go with the Pro units if not going to be powered all the time.
