The receiver should be for your TV. That comes later. You will want to hook Orbi up to your modem. The chances are you have a modem / router combo if you already have wifi without the Orbi or any other stand alone router. There is an option in Orbi to use Orbi as the primary router or in an Access Point (AP)mode. Ideally to get the full function out of your Orbi you will want to disable the router function of your modem / router combo, and leave Orbi in the router mode. There is a YouTube on how to do this on a Uverse DSL modem here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=un_CHA_UTo4. If you use the same SSID for the Orbi network as you had for the the DSL modem / router wifi portion, your receiver should pick it up. If not, you need to go back through your receiver setting and connect it again.

Trying to be clear, if you just want Orbi for coverage and do not need its full functions, you would hook it to the modem (as you would in either case) set Orbi to the AP mode in the app on on the Orbi web interface.
