Using Arlo Pro with formatted WD 4TB HD attached to base station.
HD is recording mp4 files. Second external device tried. Same results on both HDs.
These will not play properly in Quicktime, VLC or Realplayer.
Using Macbook pro with latest OS.
Files are tall & skinny, and totally blurred, like a completely out of focus close up of foliage.
Just tried reformatting the drive. No examples yet..

VLC should work. Have you got the latest version of VLC? Have you tried a Windows computer?

Thanks for that, latest version of VLC works.
However, once formatted via Arlo app, the 4TB unpartitioned HD shows only 1.64 TB of available space.
Ideas on that?

Yup, as noted in the documentation it uses the FAT32 file system which only supports 2TB. I'd suggest a thumb drive instead and use the HD for other things. You don't need a huge thumb drive 16-32GB holds a lot of videos. Just keep an eye on its capacity and copy/clear it out as needed.
