How does the camera communicate with the hub. Is it 802.11n or another RF system/protocol? Are the cameras on the same LAN as the house router, or is the hub dual NIC with separate LANs/subnets?

Not in the usual way.  You can use a WAP to reposition the base for better overall coverage but you can't do anything to interfere with the base/camera connection for security reasons.

802.11n and separate subnets.  The base is essentially a limited router.

So, you couldn't use the house network to extend the camera distance through repeating WAPs?
