Hello,

Did anyone experience issues with formatting,  where large capacity drives get formatted down to 750GB?

I plugged in 3TB drive and Arlo base station formatted it to 750GB. I tried this with three different 3TB and 2TB hard drives with the same results.

Interestingly even after formatting them on PC, the capacity was still 750GB and I could not get back full storage of 3TB or 2TB.

The PRO supports a max of 2 TB as it is formatted in Fat32 ( and that is the theoretical max for that format )

That's unfortunate to the point of irresponsible.  It's 2017, not 1996.  It's not unreasonable to assume that modern devices modern storage formats.  NetGear should be ashamed of themselves.

Pretty much any device that uses SD cards for storage uses FAT32.  Pro DSLR cameras do so as do many others.  Just offhand, I don't know of a single device that uses any other format although I'm sure there are some.

No offence, ubiquity doesn't imply the absence of mediocrity.  1.6 tb?  It's 2017 and we're talking about video files.  I haven't had to administer a single device with FAT32 in fifteen years.  I perceive this and other aspects of the system as a deliberate incapacty intended to sell cloud storage.

It's also a lowest common denominator thing. Not everyone is sophisticated. Why not ext3/4/whatever?

Also looking for local storage.

So, theoretically, since there are 2 usb ports, can we plug two 2TB external drives in for a max of 4TB of storage?

Yes. When USB1 fills it will automatically fall over to USB2.
