1. There are two USB ports on the back of the base station . What are they used for? I saw nothing in the setup regarding them. Thanks!

They are for backup videos if the Internet disconnects for any reason. Anything that would be saved to the cloud with the network connection there or not will be saved there. Use a thumb drive and set it up in Settings, My Devices, your base, Storage Settings.
Edit: I just noticed that you selected VMB3000 which has USB ports but they were never activated. This is the Arlo Pro section which would be a VMB4000 which has usable ports.
