Hello,
I need help configuring my Arlo cameras and automations. I have tried multiple settings myself, but I cannot get it to work the way I want anymore.
Before the latest update, everything worked perfectly. After the update, the behavior changed and I have not been able to restore the old functionality.
This is how I want my system to work:
- The cameras should always be active between 21:00 and 07:00, even when we are at home.
- During daytime, the cameras should only be active when nobody is home.
- During daytime, the cameras should automatically deactivate when we arrive home.
- At night, the cameras must stay active regardless of whether we are home or away.
I currently have the modes “Home”, “Away”, and “Custom”, but I cannot figure out how to configure them correctly to achieve this behavior.
Could you please guide me step by step on how to set this up properly in the current version of the Arlo app?
Thank you.

Option 1: Use the Custom Mode
Log into your account using a web browser on your PC (my.arlo.com).
- Enable Custom Mode on the dashboard by pressing it (Arm Away, Arm Home, Standby will gray out).
- Select each camera in the custom mode list, and choose "schedule". Set up the schedule to arm the cameras between 21:00 and 07:00 (note you won't be able to span midnight if you try this in the app).
- Then similarly choose "geofencing" for each camera
Note this approach will only work if you never use the three built in modes. One advantage is that when you return home it will always follow the schedule. The disadvantage is that if you need to manual disarm/rearm your cameras, you'll need to do that separately for each camera.
Option 2: Use the built in modes (either setting up in the app or my.arlo.com).
- Select routines->modes, and make sure that both Arm Home and Arm Away have rules for all your cameras. Similarly make sure that Standby has no rules
- Create a schedule automation to switch the system to "Arm Home" at 21:00. That mode needs to be enabled in both "Arm Home" and "Standby", but NOT in "Arm Away"
- Create a second schedule automation to switch the sytsem to "Standby" at 07:00. That mode similarly needs to be enabled in both "Arm Home" and "Standby", but NOT in "Arm Away".
- Create a geofencing automation that switches the system to "Arm Away" when you leave. It is ok to enable this in all three modes (but you can also enable it like the first two).
- Create a second geofencing automation that switches the system to "Standby" when you return. This must be enabled only in "Arm Away".
The disadvantage of this approach is that it will always switch to "Standby" when you return. So if you return home after 21:00, you will need to manually switch the system to "Arm Home" on the dashboard.
Note there is a bug in geofencing that affects iPhones at the moment. So if you use an iPhone you will need to manually switch modes when you leave/return until Arlo fixes it. Option 2 might be best for now, since you can do the manual switching with a single button push if you use it. You'd press "Arm Away" on the dashboard when you leave, and then "Arm Home" or "Standby" when you return.
