I need to cover a few areas that are about 650’ from our house.

I’m currently testing a TP Link EAP225 outdoor WiFi antenna set as an access point paired with a Reolink Argus PT WiFi connected camera.

I have had an Arlo setup since 2017 and it still works, however, the distance the cameras can be from the hub is disappointing to say the least. I also like the features of Arlo when compared to the Reolink.

So, my question is: since my Reolink and phone have no trouble connecting to my WiFi at the above mentioned distance (speed test shows averages of down ~200 / up ~10 Mbps at 650’) will an Arlo Pro 5S 2k also connect at that distance? The Reolink does include an external antenna, however, I’m not seeing any provisions for connecting an antenna to the Arlo camera or a smart hub if I chose to use a hub.

I’m looking to avoid running Ethernet cable(s) to various points across the property or setting up solar powered WiFi stations.

Thanks!

Kevin

There is no way to extend the hub's wifi, so that is not an option.

If your phone connects to the network with no issues, then the Pro 5s should also.  But there is no way to tell for sure w/o trying it.

That’s basically my plan with, of course, the hope that it works. I’m not familiar with antenna gain so I’m not sure if the Reolink external antenna is superior to the Arlo internal offering.
Thanks for the input!

I don't think I have any client devices in service that use external antennas.  Even Orbi wifi mesh system is all internal.

In most cases external antennas perform better.  On the other hand, the connectors on external antennas create a pathway for water to get in, and it can sometimes complicate mounting.
