Library in App says no recording using local USB storage

Have 3 pro 4 cameras and smart 4540 hub with USB inserted. In the app under Library we see a message "no recordings". We don't have the subscription and want to use local starage and playback. Any ideas for a solution?

Did you ever use local storage successfully before?
Is direct access enabled in the storage settings?
Also, is the USB 16 GB or larger? (but not larger than 2 TB).
