I need to feed the outdoor USB cable through a wall. If you used a USB Type-C connector in place of the Type-A then I would only need to drill a 10mm hole rather than a massive 15mm one!

I agree that it would have been better if they made a cable that was designed to be pullable. IMO opinion an in-line connector would be better than switching to USB-C, as it could be about the same thickess as the cable itself.
If you are prepared to risk the charger you could cut the cable, pull it, and then splice it.
