We have four cameras powered by the solar panels.   These are all exposed to the elements which includes fairly warm summers but also a lot of moisture in the form or rain and morning fog.

One camera had moisture ingress inside the shell completely corroding the contacts between the camera body and the shell -- this required complete replacement.

Two other cameras had water moisture where the solar-panel's connector attaches to the camera body -- the internal contacts appear OK.   I've been able to get them mostly working again by freeing up the shell's pogo-pins and cleaning up the cable connector's contacts.   This works in the short-term, but the connection isn't great, charge-rate is slowed, and the camera eventually doesn't charge.

Is it possible to buy just the outer shell for these cameras?   And is there anything we can do to prevent this from happening in the future?   Dialectric grease at the connector?

Yes.

Worth a try.   You can also get rain shields - Arlo doesn't sell them, but since they aren't attached to the camera, third party shields are fine.
