Hi,

A few weeks ago, I bought 6 Arlo Pro 4 cameras but I was not able to active the three month trial. I also bought the Arlo Base WMB4500. What can I get the trial? On the other hand, I live in Costa Rica and I want to know if I can buy an Arlo Secure Plan?

Thanks in advance for all your support and help.

Best regards,

Juan

No the subscription is not available in Cost Rico per this page. You can user local storage recording if you choose.  Do you Have the VMB4540 as opposed to the VMB4500 you listed. The 4540 is a Smart Hub and you can view Local Hub recordings in the App.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

I bought the VMB4500 instead of VMB4500 because the biggesr different between them was that 4540 records video locally in 4K and VMB4500 in 2K. I plugged in a usb storage to the base but it didn't work. Accordingly to Arlo's website the video is always recorded on the cloud (subscription plan) and the usb storage is just a secondary storage area (backup). Even the app still shows me a message about getting a subscription to watch the videos. What can I do?

Thanks in advance for all your support and help.

Best regards,

Juan.

You said the same model when saying instead,  I assume out of that you do have the VMB4540 Not the 4500 but both can do 4k with the Ultra model.  The Pro4 is only 2K so you won't get 4K anyway. Have you set it up per this link that is in the FAQ here also? Note you need a least a 16GB USB storge. Since you can't get a subscription in your county the Local storage is your only option. Have you tried to subscribe when the pop up about the subscription comes up just in case.

What is Direct Storage Access and how do I use it? (arlo.com)

Hello,

After looking for answers in the KB I know what the problem was.

Before buying the VMB4500 base station I read this article to make my decision:

https://www.arlo.com/en_fi/support/faq/000062284/What-is-the-difference-between-each-Arlo-SmartHub-a...

Today, I also found another article on how to watch videos stored locally on the VMB4500 base station. The only way to watch the videos was removing the USB storage from the base station and then connect it to the computer.

https://kb.arlo.com/1146850/How-do-I-view-videos-saved-on-a-local-storage-USB-device

Only VMB4540 and VMB5000 have the Direct Storage Access feature that allows user watch videos stored locally using the Arlo App.

https://kb.arlo.com/000062337/What-is-Direct-Storage-Access-and-how-do-I-use-it

I made a bad decision and wasted my money based on incomplete information from the article about differences between base stations and smart hubs.

I really appreciate for all your help.

Best regards,

Juan.
